About Lei Huang and Runway.
Who writes this blog?
Lei Huang is a former Computer Science professor at the University of Houston and the Texas A&M University System, turned founder and developer. He builds Runway, a DIY retirement income planner.
Lei is not a financial advisor, a CFP, or a tax professional, and nothing on this site is personalized advice. What he brings is software: the planning engine behind Runway is what computes the figures in these posts.
How can you contact Lei?
Corrections, questions about a figure, or feedback on a post — use the form and Lei will reply by email. He can't give personal financial, tax or legal advice.
What is Runway?
Runway is a retirement decumulation planner for U.S. retirees. It turns your accounts, Social Security and spending into a year-by-year income plan using U.S. federal and state tax rules, stress-tested against thousands of simulated markets. It's built by Infinitisoft LLC and doesn't manage or hold anyone's money.
How are the numbers on this blog made?
- Computed, not estimated. Figures marked as Runway's own come from its planning engine, run on a stated example household. Each post spells out the assumptions in a "How were these numbers calculated?" section.
- Linked to the primary source. Where possible, tax limits, Medicare rules and Social Security figures link to the IRS, CMS, SSA or Treasury page they came from, not to a summary of it.
- Projections are labeled. When a number isn't official yet (a forecast COLA, a projected IRS limit), the post says so, and it's updated when the official figure is published.
- Dated. Every post carries a date, and newer posts show when they were last updated.
Try it on your own numbers. Runway's free tier lets you build a year-by-year plan with no credit card.
